For over 180 years, the Society has been at the heart of farming life in North East Scotland — a region world-renowned for its pedigree livestock and skilled stockmen. Founded in 1843 by forward-thinking farmers and landowners, the Society was created with one clear purpose: to improve agricultural production and strengthen the rural economy in all its forms.
Royal Patronage has been a hallmark of the organisation since its earliest days. Today, we are honoured to have Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal as our Patron, succeeding Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 2010. Princess Anne has shown her support by attending the Royal Northern Spring Show, a highlight of the farming calendar that continues to attract exhibitors and visitors from across the country.
Best known for its acclaimed Spring Show, the Society also champions competitions in cereal and turnip growing, celebrates excellence through awards for outstanding service to agriculture, and actively promotes best farming practices. But its work goes further still — supporting worthy causes and nurturing the next generation through countryside education for young people.
The Society’s story is one of heritage and progress, of farming families and rural communities working together for a stronger future. From the show rings to the classroom, its influence can be seen wherever good farming practice is encouraged and celebrated.
